We commonly treat children ages three and up at Hardeman County Vision Center in Bolivar, TN. Our eye Dr. Elizabeth Ligon has extensive experience treating children's eye health and vision conditions. However, pediatric eye health starts with an exam. At this exam, Dr. Ligon will ask your child questions about their eyes, test their vision and function, and examine their eyes for any problems. Read on to learn more about the pediatric eye exams performed by our eye doctor.
Consultation
Dr. Ligon usually performs the consultation first when meeting with patients of all ages. At this time, the doctor will ask your child if they have eye health or vision problems. She will also speak to you about any eye health problems your child may have had. Finally, Dr. Elizabeth Ligon will speak to you to learn whether eye problems run in your family.
Vision and Eye Function
After Dr. Ligon has performed the consultation, she will move on to eye function testing and vision testing. Vision testing will consist of having your child read a wall chart and a reading chart. If your child has a vision problem, Dr. Ligon can detect it at this stage. Then, she can prescribe glasses or contacts for your child.
Eye function testing tests various factors, including depth perception and color perception. In addition, we will also test your child's peripheral vision and the responsiveness of their eyes to light.
Eye Health Exam
Finally, Dr. Elizabeth Ligon will examine your child's eyes using magnification and a bright light. She may also dilate your child's pupils. We will check for evidence of eye health problems, like macular degeneration or glaucoma. She may refer you to a top ophthalmologist if she detects any issues. However, she can still help you manage your child's eye health treatments.
